Tasty London Sandwiches

Introduction

There is a stereotype that the UK doesn’t have particularly good food. The best food is generally not actually native British, but come from elsewhere. Like chicken tikka masala. However as someone who has travelled to England a few months ago, there are some pretty good eats to be found. It’s a matter of finding the right places.

I do enjoy Harry Kersh’s content. He’s clearly a man who is curious and enjoys a good meal. In this episode he searches for some tasty sandwiches in London. There are of course many options in the English capital. However there’s only so many you can reasonably try and only just so many places that have good quality sandwiches.

Why Sandwiches?

Sandwiches are sometimes underrated. Sandwiches can go from a simple snack to a hearty meal. It’s also deceptively easy to make. Sure you can just put stuff between pieces of bread. But somehow people can make them boring or just straight up badly. That’s why it’s worth sharing with other people a good place to get a sandwich. After all you never know when you might feel like getting a sandwich instead of something else less convenient for someone on the go.

I especially appreciate videos like this one because I don’t often get an opportunity to travel mostly because of money. I mean sure I technically have money to travel, but then I can’t travel again until I save up the money once more. I don’t just watch videos like this live vicariously. I find these are useful tips and resources for a future trip.

I certainly have a goal of eventually going back to the UK for another trip. Maybe a longer one where I can see more stuff. And I’d certainly like to make a note of interesting food options on said trip. A mix of friend recommendations and yes even internet food reviewers. I’d however want to make sure they aren’t overly promoted places that hundreds of influencers visit.

Shops in the video

The different shops are mentioned in the video, but links to their websites for more info about that aren’t included. So I had to go look them up myself. Here they are:

Rogue Sarnies – https://www.roguesarnies.uk/

Johnny Schnitzel – https://www.johnnyschnitzel.com/

Cafe Mondo – https://www.instagram.com/mondo.sandwiches/

Max’s Sandwich Shop – https://maxssandwichshop.com/

Which ones would I try?

If I got the chance to try any of the sandwiches in the video? There are a few that look really promising. I really liked the look of the meatball sandwich at Rogue Sarnies. Maybe it’s because I haven’t eaten a meatball sandwich in years, it definitely looked tasty. Also I don’t find meatball sandwiches at many shops so it fits my philosophy of “eat what you can’t make at home” mentality. The last time I had a meatball sandwich is sadly at Subway of all places. Hm… maybe I should take a cheat day from Noom at some point and get a meatball sandwich at some point.

Another I would try is the Christmas sandwich from Cafe Mondo. While Brits call is a Christmas sandwich it pretty much looks like a Thanksgiving sandwich to a Yank like me. And I love the type of things you would put in such a sandwich. I will admit I’m skeptical of the Korean ingredients in that sandwich. Mostly because Harry indicated that it wasn’t a really strong flavor from the kimchi. I think if you’re going to add ingredients that are known for their flavor, you should be able to taste it. Otherwise why bother including it at all? But just my opinion.
